P004 Robotic Timber Joint
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Program: Pavilion
Status: Concept
Year: 2023
This studio engaged in a dialogue about how
architects consider the tension between the machine as a component of labor and meaning. The project explored tectonic expression in a contemporary dry-fit timber joint. Softwood lumber was used to create intersecting members. The assignment is divided into three parts: a traditional joint, a contemporary joint, and a contemporary joint aggregation/array. In addition, robotics was incorporated into the design and fabrication process to investigate new possibilities using advanced robotics.
